Small Molecule Antibody Discovery
Small molecules refer to compounds with a molecular weight of ≤1000 Da, including pesticides, veterinary drugs, biological toxins, environmental pollutants, hormones, and heavy metals. The trace detection of these compounds is critical in agriculture, food safety, environmental monitoring, and medical diagnostics. Immunoassay techniques based on antigen-antibody specificity offer high specificity, sensitivity, stability, and ease of operation.
Key Challenges in Small Molecule Antibody Development
Since small molecules lack immunogenicity and only exhibit reactivity, their successful antibody production relies on hapten design. This process involves conjugating small molecule haptens to large carrier proteins, enabling the immune system to generate specific antibodies against the hapten.
Common Small Molecule Antibody Production Methods
· Rabbit Polyclonal Antibodies (pAbs) – Simple and widely used in early applications. However, their specificity is relatively low, and batch-to-batch variability limits assay reproducibility.
· Mouse Monoclonal Antibodies (mAbs) – Offer high specificity and scalability but require complex production processes, where each step impacts the final antibody quality.
Our Advanced Antibody Discovery Platform
Leveraging the HTS-Smart Select Platform, we develop high-affinity and highly specific antibodies against small molecule-hapten complexes. Our process involves:
1. Inducing anti-idiotypic antibody production in animals.
2. Constructing a yeast display library.
3. Utilizing flow cytometry for precise screening and selection.
This approach enables efficient discovery of superior antibodies, ensuring enhanced sensitivity and specificity for small molecule detection applications.
